If you’ve looked for project management tools, you’ve probably heard of ClickUp. And if you opened ClickUp, you were probably immediately overwhelmed 🙃
Here’s why:
ClickUp is EXTREMELY CAPABLE. And for the exact same reason you get overwhelmed looking at the Cheesecake Factory menu vs. the little cafe with two sandwich options, ClickUp just has SO MANY OPTIONS.
I’ve worked in a LOT of project and task management tools. And when you’re a solopreneur, you might not have a team of people you need to assign things to or chat with, you probably don’t need a million automations and views and lists OH MY. But you do need a way to manage your tasks effectively.
And like astrology, you can take what you need, and leave the rest.
One of the common pitfalls I see that draws people away from ClickUp is trying to maximize their use of all the tool’s capabilities, instead of building out a workspace that does the things YOU need it to.
I like to compare this to actually eating all you can eat at an all-you-can-eat buffet. You will just leave with a really bad stomach ache and ask yourself “why tf did I do that” for the next week while your bowels figure themselves out. But if you eat some of each of the things you really like, you’ll leave full and ready to resume life as usual.
ClickUp having a lot of features means it probably can do what you need it to do, regardless of the size of your business, your industry, etc — which is why I recommend it over its more basic competitors. If you focus on what your business needs from it, you can have a pleasantly simple setup, and you and ClickUp will be fast friends.
An added bonus is that as your business grows and your needs evolve, you don’t have to switch tools, because you’ll never “outgrow” the capabilities of ClickUp, like you might with a tool like Asana or Trello. Because switching tools is a pain in the ass. Especially if you need something new NOW because you’re growing.
Whether you’re opening ClickUp for the first time, or want to see what a solid, yet simple setup can look like — my ClickUp KickStart template is just the place to start.
This is quite literally the template I use for my own business, and has views to organize both individual projects AND to see what needs to be done across projects, so you never fall behind.
