IT’S TIME TO STOP FEELING EMBARRASSED ABOUT YOUR DUCT-TAPED TOGETHER SYSTEMS !!

This week on Where’s Your Humanity, I talk with Kim from Oinopo Studio AT LENGTH about the embarrassment we feel when we hire someone to help us with the hot mess parts of our business:

You hire a brand designer and feel ashamed of the DIY branding you did that you thought was good at one point, but you now hate.

You hire a copywriter and feel ashamed that actually, you suck at writing about what you do (hi, it’s me 👋).

Or obviously, you hire me, and are afraid to show me the hot mess you’ve been living with.

So I’m stopping the shame spiral RIGHT HERE AND NOW.

You started somewhere, and you should be proud of that.

I literally cannot emphasize enough how much I do not care if your systems aren’t perfect.

Actually, I would be like: “why are you paying me $$$ rn??” if your systems WERE perfect.

We all have different skillsets, a limited amount of hours in the day, and a host of other life things that need our attention.

So the fact that you started AT ALL? HUGE.

The fact that you kept at it even when every perfectionist bone in your body tried to tell you you couldn’t??? EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE.

So pat yourself on the fucking back, because you deserve it.

Also, i would be feeling pretty hypocritical if i didn’t admit that my systems suck right now…

Yep!

You heard it here first.

I don’t even have an inquiry response workflow right now (who is she???).

Why?

Because I’m in the middle of a CRM transition from a tool that did me dirty, in my busiest month of business thus far, and have not had one single moment free to fix my own shit.

And yeah, sometimes I feel like a MAJOR hypocrite having nary a workflow in place right now, working late hours, and still showing up as a self-proclaimed systems expert for my clients.

I feel like I have to caveat every slow response with, “I promise I know what I’m doing!!!”

But the truth is, you know you don’t have to have it all together to run a business that allows you to do what you love.

And you know it because you are already doing it.

And what are friends for, if not to fill in the gaps?

I’m not a web copywriter, web designer, or photographer, so you know I hire those out for my business!!

And it pays off because I’ve literally had someone tell me they “read every page of my website and were sad there weren’t more” 😂

And while my branding and website and web copy and photos so thoroughly represent me, I am not the genius behind them!!

And if you’re reading this and going oh yeah, obviously building my systems feels overwhelming BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M DOING !! or because you want them to be better, or because you don’t have time, or, or, or…

You don’t need an excuse for systems you don’t love, and you definitely don’t need to apologize to me about them when you come to me.

CLAP FOR YOURSELF because you started somewhere.

And when you are ready to evolve your systems to suit the next stage of your business, I’ll be at the ready.
